Happy New Year to everybody! 2014 has slipped through our fingers and a whole year now lays ahead for us to explore. Well, I guess it is more of a necessary ritual to go through the highlights of 2014 and pen down my thoughts. So in the past 365 days, here are some things I enjoyed/experienced
1. Working as a waitress
My first time working as a waitress and while it was a source of pocket money for me, I found it to be quite a bore nearing the last few months of my work. Maybe this also shows my personality. I feel excited for most things at the beginning then my excitement wears off, and I start to get bored. This relates to a lot of things. My work, my hobbies, a game app, etc. My biggest takeaway is that I realise i can not work as something I don't enjoy. So in future, if I was offered with a boring yet high paying job, I'll just reject it.
2. Release of A levels results
Well, this was the highlight of my year. As mentioned on my instagram, that day was the "happiest day of my life". Looking back, exaggeration yes. but I remember the moment as everything has paid off. My hard work, my perseverance. It reminds me of tough times, and immense gratitude for the people around me.
3. Holidays
Traveller should be my middle name. I love travelling. Actually, I love Changi Airport too. I get so excited everytime I go to the airport and check in, and walk through the departure gates, and go on the plane, and all. This year, I spent a lot of my money travelling but I think it's money well spent. I've been to Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bangkok and Bali. I will be saving more money to travel to further places in 2015, though to me, holiday is not about the distance between Singapore and the holiday destination, but the feeling and experiences you take away from the holiday.
4. University
University is a lot more different from what I imagined it to be. It's not exactly smooth-sailing, but it has had its fair share of interesting times too. Perhaps the thing I didn't expect is that I am unable to "fit in". But then again, I don't know what is the definition of "fitting in". Do I have to be able to find a friend at every turn, and always having to be surrounded by people I know? Maybe "fitting in" is equivalent to a scene where you can be studying alone, and friends suddenly pop next to you, striking a conversation about some interesting thing that happened blah blah. Maybe "fitting in" is having a spot everywhere you go. Then, in that case, I don't think I have "fitted in". Am I bothered? I would be lying if I said no. But I would also be lying if I said I am upset over it. I just don't feel anything towards it now. For me, I am glad to know I have people to ask help from, I don't have to eat alone blah blah. I like privacy, and I guess this is a good change. I have my bffs, and they somehow become my everything in university.
5. The Hiccup
This blog is for you to read, but it never started with the intention to get me famous or anything. I just feel that my memory lacks the capability of remembering everything that happened so it's good to write it somewhere. Number 5, is for my memory, and not so for you to read. This is the hiccup in my life. It's going to change most things in my life, and I am hurt, I am surprised, I am shaken. But I am okay. I know God will help me every step of the way. So don't worry about me. It'll help if you can pray for me. I'll appreciate that :)
That's 2014 for me. If I can describe 2014 in one word, it's Blessed. I am a blessed child.
How has your 2014 been?
Love,
Xin Hui
